How to check what version of Internet Explorer you are running?
  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Click on the Help menu
  3. Select About Internet Explorer
  4. The version number will be displayed in the popup window
    Normally the first 2 numbers indicate the primary version number such as 6.0 or 7.0 (this ranges from 4.40 - old to 7.0 - latest)




  
 

Internet Explorer or more precisely, Windows Internet Explorer, (formerly called Microsoft Internet Explorer) is a software used to display websites, a.k.a. a browser. Internet Explorer is commonly referred to "Explorer" only or IE.

It was first released in 1995. During the late 90s it was the most popular browser on the Internet with over 95% of users using it. Currently its marketshare is much lower than that but IE is still the most popular browser with Mozilla's Firefox in the second place.

Explorer is known for many security loopholes which explains why many advanced users and developers use Firefox instead.
